Well today I was doing school and I was reading in History about the declaration of Independence and things like that. And of course I wasn't expecting to find anything very interesting since I had read about the founding of our country only about one million times. but this time I actually thoroughly enjoyed reading my history book. I read today something very true that caught my eye. It was part of a speech that John Adams had written about the declaration of the Independence. Something he said really made me stop and think and I thought I'd share his words with you....well at least some of them I won't post the whole speech on here.
"...I am well aware of the toil, the blood, and treasure that it will cost to maintain this Declaration and support and defend these states; yet through all the gloom, I can see the rays of light and glory;that the end is worth all the means; that prosperity will triumph in the day's transaction..."
~ John Adams
Two things stuck out to me about this speech, and the events surrounding this speech. First of all I just want to talk about these amazing and encouraging words. John Adams wrote "yet through all the gloom, I can see the rays of light and glory"
Isn't this also so true for us even today? Life sometimes gets gloomy and we feel like giving up. I'm sure that the Americans felt this way in their country. They were being controlled by the British and they wanted freedom...but freedom isn't free. The Americans fought hard for our freedom! They didn't just give up when things looked gloomy, they fought on and they fought hard! and it payed of. They won the war; yes lives were lost, yes people suffered, but in the end we were free. All that pain and suffering was not in vain! Rays of light and glory shone through and because of those soldiers who gave their lives and never gave up we are still a free country. God delivered America out of the hands of the British. and he can deliver us out of any trial we go through in life.
We built this country for and on him. He WAS what America stood for. but today America has slid so far from God.That's the second thing I want to talk about. What I read in History today really opened my eyes to the sad reality of what state America is in today. Men like John Adams, George Washington, Patrick Henry, and Paul Revere were amazing God fearing American political heroes. They stood for more then just this countries freedom, they stood for God and they openly shared their faith. They founded this country and they founded it all for the glory of God. Many of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were Christians all joining together to create a country that would flourish under the grace of God.
but look at where we are now. Our leaders do not fear or rely on God for anything. America has kicked God out of our government, our schools, and our homes. They teach evolution instead of creation, they have forbidden public prayer in schools, and have outlawed bibles also. America has lost sight of the whole reason we founded our country. America is farther from God then it ever has been and if you haven't noticed our country is getting worse and worse because of it. We can learn so much from History. We can learn so much from people in history. Just reading John Adams speech encouraged me, helped me, and also burdened me for our country. These men fought so hard for our country and it prospered because they were relying on God! But now our country is falling apart because we have lost sight of God.
Many people say "God bless America" and yes we need God's mercy and grace in our country. but what we should really be saying is "America bless God"
God has been blessing America for years. It's time we started blessing God.
That last paragraph is especially too true, Britt! :) I love it! :)
ReplyDeleteYes I really love that phrase too! I got that out of my bible book =D

You said it Britt! Good reminder! We always need God, even more now! Thanks for posting this! A lot of people are afraid to say what they believe in, but a true Christian says what they believe is right. Keep it up girl! :)
